Defensive Shooting - Basic (Level One)

Topics Covered:

  1. Details of modern isosceles stance

  2. Draw stroke that is ergonomic and realistic

  3. Elements of Trigger Control

  4. Defensive Sight Picture

  5. Shooting from cover

  6. Presenting the firearm from concealment

  7. Evaluation of presentation techniques (including presentation time to first shot)

  8. Proper reloading techniques

Students will successfully master pistol drills, demonstrate safe gun handling, improve marksmanship, plus gain a familiarity with modern techniques of handgun shooting. Proper skills and techniques will be demonstrated throughout the class. The instructional approach is straightforward and has been proven to work with all shooters from beginners to expert. First, students are taught to shoot stationary targets slowly and accurately. Then, speed is built through rhythm and repetition. After gaining confidence in shooting under pressure of command and time constraints, students will shoot against their peers. This creates additional pressure and better enables them to perform in varying conditions.

To attend this course, students will need a quality handgun, holster, at least two magazines or speed loaders. The student should come to the class with a carry device that they would use on the street. In other words carry the gun in class like you would when you carry with your handgun permit.

Eye and ear protection are required, hat with a brim, and 250 rounds of ammunition.
